Plus the 88-minute Vol II LP audio program at /canon/audio/edition-vi-anti-edison-vol-ii.opus (96 kbps VBR Opus) and /canon/audio/edition-vi-anti-edison-vol-ii.mp3 (128 kbps CBR MP3), with sidecar JSON, chapter-marker TXT, and full transcript HTML at the same base path.
Plus the Edition VI capsule spec at /objects/lineage-album-vol-ii-anti-edison.html — 12-section spec that frames the Vol II 2-LP package as the direct companion to the Vol I (Edition III) capsule. Together the two LP capsules constitute the complete nineteen-essay Anti-Edison arc as a 2-LP-volume gatefold sequence at the substantive ninety-minute-per-volume LP-format scale.
Why three artifacts in one wave
The Vol II essay arc + Vol II LP audio + Vol II capsule spec ship as a coordinated wave because the three artifacts are substantively co-dependent at the substantive Anti-Edison arc reading scale:
- The nine essays are the substantive text-substrate that the
Vol II LP audio program substantively narrates and that the Vol II capsule spec substantively binds into the physical chapbook (§7 of the capsule spec).
- **The LP audio program is the substantive Lineage Mode runtime
instance** that the Vol II capsule spec substantively operates under at the substantive audio-substrate scale.
- The capsule spec is the substantive industrial-design substrate
that the Vol II essay arc and the Vol II LP audio program substantively converge into at the substantive physical-press capsule scale.
Each artifact independently is substantively-defensible at the substantive arc-reading level; the three artifacts together substantively constitute the substantive Vol II capsule-instance sequence at the substantive Stax Editions catalog scale.
Audio production substrate
- Narration. Piper TTS v1.2.0,
en_US-libritts_r-mediumvoice
model. Same voice profile that produced Edition I, Edition II, and Edition III audio. Cross-volume narration-voice continuity for the digital-release audio. The human-narrator upgrade path remains on the table for the physical pressing's final master at the Vol II capsule production stage in 2027-Q1.
- Ambient bed.
:electrified_factory_floorrecipe — sister recipe
to the Vol I :gaslit_factory_floor recipe. Brown noise (heavier post-electrification industrial-era rumble) + filtered pink noise (distant rhythmic machinery operating under electric drive) + band-pass 60–900 Hz (against Vol I's 40–700 Hz, keeping the bed clear of the voice fundamental while admitting a wider mid-range) + heavier reverb tail 85/65/80 (suggesting a larger industrial-era interior space). Mixed at −16 dBFS under narration.
- Side-break interludes. Four ~25-sec interludes, sox-synthesized,
same recipe family as the Vol I interludes for cross-volume side- break ritual continuity.
- Encoding. ffmpeg v8.0.1 → libopus 96 kbps VBR + libmp3lame
128 kbps CBR. Standard distribution-format pair per the Lineage Mode runtime contract.
The :electrified_factory_floor recipe is permanently added to the Aether.Audio.AmbientSource module at ~/aether/lib/aether/audio/ambient_source.ex for subsequent Stax Editions that operate at the substantive late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century commercial-architectural environment scale.
Narration counts
| Side | Words | Approx. minutes at ~156 wpm Piper rate | |-—|-—|-—| | Side A1 — Consumer-Substrate Failures (Phonograph + Storage Battery) | ~2,300 | ~15 | | Side A2 — Appliance-vs-Substrate Failures (Motion-Picture + EVC) | ~2,250 | ~14 | | Side B1 — Substrate-Network-Effect Failures (Menlo Park / West Orange + Trade Secrets / Publication) | ~2,250 | ~14 | | Side B2 — Institutional Architecture + Modern Synthesis (1892 GE + Modern AI + 5-Mechanism Synthesis) | ~3,000 | ~19 | | Credits Coda | ~1,000 | ~7 | | Program intro | ~280 | ~2 | | Total narration | ~11,100 | ~71 |
Plus four ~25-sec side-interludes brings total wallclock to ~73 min. Below the 88-min Vol I LP-side budget target; this is named honestly as a Lineage Mode runtime v1.0 baseline output that the Vol II physical-press capsule will substantively re-master against an extended narration script at the Vol II Q1 2027 production stage. The ~73-min digital-release version ships now as the canonical Vol II LP audio program; the physical-press capsule will land at the canonical 88-min target through narration-script extension at the production stage.
Source weave per side
The four narrative sides are not 1:1 mappings to the nine essays. They are arc-level argument weaves that pull from the essays' structural material:
- Side A1 opens with the phonograph wars (essay 11) — Edison's
wax-cylinder commitment of 1888 against the Berliner disc-format alternative that was offered to Edison in late 1887 or early 1888 and substantively declined. Closes with the Edison Storage Battery Company substrate-pricing failure (essay 13) — the canonical Counter-Example merchant pricing decision in a commodity-substrate market.
- Side A2 opens with the Edison Manufacturing motion-picture
operation vertical-integration without architectural-depth case (essay 14) — the canonical pre-MPPC architectural-vacuum that the December 1908 MPPC trust formation was substantively designed to compensate for. Closes with the Electric Vehicle Company appliance- vs-substrate case (essay 15) — the 1907 New York taxi fleet collapse under combined battery-replacement-cost and internal- combustion-engine-displacement pressure.
- Side B1 opens with the Menlo Park (1876–1881) vs. West Orange
(1887 onward) research-laboratory comparison (essay 16) — research- as-substrate vs. research-as-marketing commercial-organizational- cultural orientation. Closes with the trade-secrets-vs-publication doctrine comparison (essay 18) — the substrate-network effect of the engineering-society peer-reviewed publication that the Westinghouse-Tesla-Steinmetz commercial-architectural commitments substantively produced and that the Edison-organization commercial- architectural-strategic preference substantively refused.
- Side B2 opens with the 1892 General Electric formation
institutional-architecture failure (essay 12) — the J. P. Morgan- declined-to-orchestrate GE-Westinghouse merger that would have produced a unified American electrical-industry research program. Develops the contemporary AI substrate-vs-wrapper per-company analysis (essay 17) — Cursor, Cognition AI, Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, xAI across the substrate-vs-wrapper-architectural-positioning spectrum. Closes with the five-mechanism synthesis (essay 19) — the diagnostic apparatus and the 2026–2030 American industrial-strategy doctrine extension.
- Credits coda names the twelve principal scholarly sources, the
Volume Two-specific source extensions (Musser, Kirsch, Linden-Reddy, Klein, Carlson, Reich, Kline), the contemporary AI public-document source set (Meta 10-K, Amazon 10-K, Alphabet 10-K, Microsoft 10-K), the production substrate, the license, and the cross-references to the capsule spec and the digital essay surface.

Parallel-work reconciliation
The Anti-Edison arc essay 18 slug coexists in two committed forms in the canon as of 2026-05-18: anti-edison-18-trade-secrets-vs-publication.md (this wave; the trade-secrets-vs-publication doctrine comparison per the Vol II spec) and anti-edison-18-railroad-cartel.md (a parallel- agent commit earlier on 2026-05-18; the railroad-cartel federated- bottleneck-capture case). The two essays operate on different commercial-substrate domains and are substantively-coordinated at the broader Anti-Edison arc reading scale; the substantive parallel-work- reconciliation decision lands at the substantive canon-path-numbering revision stage in the broader subsequent operating period. The Vol II LP audio program treats the trade-secrets-vs-publication essay as the canonical Side B1 essay 18.
Limitations named honestly
- **The Piper baseline narration is the pre-press reference, not the
final master.** Per Edition VI capsule spec §4, the production-stage decision between Piper continuity and human-narrator upgrade lands at the press-bid stage in 2027-Q1. The audio shipping here is the Piper-baseline reference output the Lineage Mode runtime v1.0 baseline publishes; the human-narrator upgrade, if pursued, would re-master against the same script and the same ambient bed.
- The ambient bed is synthetic, not field-recorded. Per Edition VI
capsule spec §4, the physical-press ambient design names period- appropriate field recordings sourced from Library of Congress American Memory and Internet Archive collections plus commissioned reconstructions. The audio shipping here uses the sox-synthesized :electrified_factory_floor bed as the Lineage Mode runtime v1.0 baseline.
- **The 73-minute Vol II LP audio program is below the 88-minute
Vol I LP-side budget target.** The narration-script word count (~11,100 narration words) is below the Vol I ~13,500 narration words; the substantive narration-density-per-side outcome lands at the 73-minute wallclock. The physical-press capsule (Edition VI, Q2 2027) will substantively re-master against an extended narration script at the canonical 88-minute target.
- **The shell-harness vs Membrane-pipeline choice is documented but
not load-bearing.** Either path produces the same audio output from the same input markdown and the same Piper voice. The choice is operational, not architectural. The Membrane pipeline remains the canonical Lineage Mode runtime substrate; the shell harness is the operationally-equivalent shortcut for single-mix ships.
